Flogging Molly

Flogging Molly are an Irish-American Celtic punk rock band helmed by singer/guitarist Dave King. The band name derives from the bar Molly Malone’s where they used to play once a week in their early days. Originally a heavy metal frontman, King assembled a new band in the early nineties with a Celtic influence. Musically they take their cue from such bands as The Clash, The Pogues, Johnny Cash and The Dubliners. Ireland and its history feature prominently in their lyrics, as do such topics as poverty, drinking, politics, life and death. Tracks like ‘Drunken Lullabies’ and ‘If I Ever Leave This World Alive’ illustrate their talent for pairing high-energy melodies with deeply introspective lyrics and their live shows are filled with infectious energy and a sense of camaraderie that turns any venue into a rowdy celebration.
